Patience the Key for Fans Too

One week into the preseason hockey fans are littering the internet with “boring! too many penalties!” and the like.  While it’s true, watching 60 minutes of special teams isn’t exciting, everyone needs to realize we’ve been here before.  The last time the NHL tried to hinder clutch and grab hockey there were many, many penalties.  Everyone, from the coaches to the players to the media to the fans, complained.  The league eased up on the calls and the hockey we all hated even more returned.

This time, we need to stick it out.  If it takes weeks, so be it.  If it takes months, so be it.  Let the penalties get called and let the players finally get used to the new rules and the new style of play.  Eventually most players will get used to it, and the ones who don’t won’t last very long after that.  Some coaches and players may complain, and there’s not much we can do about that, but calm your fellow fan down and if the media is whining it up, shoot them a note too.  Wait it out, the game will be better for it.
