Witt Lands on the Island
Brendan Witt signed a three-year deal with the NY Islanders.
Capitals fans are probably happy the Islanders and Washington aren’t in the same division anymore, and they won’t have to see ROTY AO go up against former fan favorite Witt.
Witt under Ted Nolan could be a new type of grit for the “new” NHL (are we still calling it that?).
No news service is reporting any monetary figures. It’ll be interesting to see how much cap space the Islanders have left and if they can make another significant move this offseason.

Witt is a horrible defenceman. He can’t skate, consequently he can usually be found standing in front of his net after the opposing team has scored looking like he just woke from a coma and can’t figure out where he is or what he’s supposed to be doing. When he’s not looking for someone to hit (regardless of where the play is, or what his positioning is or is supposed to be) he’s in the penalty box. He has a negative plus/minus rating, the most penalty minutes on the team, and can’t pass or shoot well enough to make any of his teammates want to pass to him.
Good riddance, which is what the Islanders fans will be saying the same thing before the ‘06-‘07 season is out.
Posted by ChristopherTodd on Jul 05, 2006 at 01:26 PMWith the recent addition of Poti and the re-signing of Bouchard, I think the Isles defense will be pretty tough to play against this up-coming season.
