When First Is Last
With a loss tonight Dallas could become the first team to be eliminated from the playoffs this season.
Not one for predictions, I actually made my Stanley Cup pick public this season (via Off Wing and Deadspin). Of course, I picked the Stars.
Earlier in the season I was interviewed and asked who my Cup pick was. I said the Flyers if they get good goaltending. I’m not one for trendy picks (I was never on the Sens bandwagon) and the Stars looked like a solid team with mixed skill and grit and solid goaltending. They were my Cup loser. Towards the end of the season I stuck with it, but flipped the teams around.
So along comes the playoffs and not only are the Avs beating the Stars, it’s almost just like Dallas is just beating themselves. The forwards aren’t taking advantage of anything, including luck (i.e. pucks going in off Jose Theodore’s back), and Marty Turco must be seeing pucks like they’re the size of Theodore’s Propecia pills because they’re flying past him at the worst times.
Do you know what the odds are for Dallas to win the series? Seriously, do you? Because I can’t find a place that even lists the numbers. It’s been pulled off the board everywhere. Guess it’s what I’m thinking, there’s just no chance for a comeback.*
* I’d love to be proved wrong. Go Stars.
