Welcome to the Club
It took almost a full month, but after Jason Strudwick dropped the gloves with Grant Marshall tonight, all 30 NHL teams now have at least one fighting major.
Following up my previous post about more games that go into overtime are being decided pre-shootout - tonight’s Oilers win over the Red Wings in OT brought the percentage of all games that go into overtime not going into a shootout to 63.41%. In the week since I’ve posted the numbers it’s gone up 3%. It doesn’t sound like much, but with all the games now being played, it’s solidifying the raw numbers (making it less of a chance that it’s just a few random games). It would now take 17 games in a row going into a shootout for the percentage to fall into the previous norm of around 45%.
I’ll be creating a stats page here that will update dynamically to easily watch the numbers throughout the season.
