Slot machines? Who needs ‘em? Just get the “best thing since Lemieux”, pair him with Lemieux, and then go grab a bunch of All-Stars after a long off-season. Simple, right?

Unfortunately, their defence still looks awful. The only addition they made back there was Gonchar, and points from the blueline weren't their problem. A low-end playoff team, but by no means a contender.
Posted by James Mirtle on 2005-08-19 23:22:17 So the question is... are the Pens Contenders or Pretenders this year? Personally, I think there are just too many new pieces to get to gel this year. They'll certainly be improved (how could they not), but I can easily see them missing the playoffs. Of course, from a business side, they definatly had to capitalize on getting Crosby. And it ceartainly seems to be paying off. If they hadn't been active in their signings, Crosby would have sold only so many tickets. This certainly puts them in a better situation finacially for the next few years.
