Quickie Observation of the Day

Would just like to mention a few things I heard, or didn’t hear, from some games I was able to turn into:

Toronto - Ottawa: There were no complaints about these two teams meeting again.  The game was a blowout early.

Montreal - Vancouver: There were complaints that this is the only time these two teams meet this season.  Thank goodness they did, the Canucks got to score six in the first period.  The game ended with the ‘Nucks routing the Habs 6-2.

Florida - Anaheim: There were no complaints about these two teams only meeting once this season.  It was a close game, 1-0 until the very end.

My point?  There’s no point in complaining about unbalanced scheduling.  You never know what type of game you’re going to get and for every team you’d like to see another time there’s probably one or more that you wouldn’t.  Still, we hear ridiculous comments about the “Original Six” needing to play everyone 10 times and Canadian teams seem to be required to play half their schedules against each other to make some happy.  Complaints about this are just getting ridiculous.  Give the schedule a couple of years, especially after we see some playoff rounds.

Comments:

  1. Nobody in Atlanta seemed to find seeing Tampa for the fourth time, as the game sold out well in advance of the opening faceoff.

I’m all for the schedule, though I’d like to see the distribution of games more spread out, perhaps as pairs of home and homes, which have been great this year. Boston and Atlanta play for the first time this week. They shouldn’t have had to wait until the second half to play their first game.
