Putting the Dance in Attendance

Chuq Von Rospach over at Two for Elbowing has a beef with other people having a beef about the decrease in NHL attendance this season.  Chuqui lays out the numbers and asks for logic to be restored in the media and bloggers to stop crying that the sky is falling.  His numbers are solid and his reasoning isn’t off, except I’ll add this:

The reason why the MSM and bloggers won’t simmer down is no one believes the numbers NHL teams are releasing.  Is the league in denial?  The teams?  Are fans looking for something that isn’t there? (no pun intended)

Google “nhl inflated attendance” and you get over 15k results.  Complaints over inflated attendance numbers are nothing new, but as the NHL was trying to prove nothing was wrong after the lockout was over, attendance numbers might have been the biggest proof of life given.

As time goes on and more people look at the numbers and then look at the stands, more will realize that something’s just not quite right.
