One Wish Granted
A month ago on Quick Hits I noticed the Sharks and Ducks switched dark and light jerseys for a home and home series. The home team wore white instead of the normal dark jersey we’ve seen in recent seasons.
I wrote this:
Can anyone tell me why the teams decided to wear white at home for the series? It was a nice change. While the “dark” jersey is usually more colorful, and you’ll probably see more fans in the stand wearing them, having the home team wear “dark” can make a lot of games look the same for the home crowd. Your favorite team in whatever color jersey against the guys in white. From the 60s until just a few years ago the home team wore white and you’d see the opposition come onto the ice in red, green, blue. Every game looked drastically different, even if it wasn’t played that way. Small thing, I know, but the NHL should consider switching back to home team wears white.
The 60s were mixed, as I have some clips with home team wearing white, and some with the away team wearing white, but I digress… it looks like someone out there agrees with me, or at least that what’s Bucci’s hearing:
As part of the new Reebok uniform unveiling next season, my sources tell me the NHL is going back to white at home and there will be no third jersey.
Except for the horrid ones (toony ducks, crazy kings), third jerseys never bothered me much. Sure, they were just for extra bucks, but some of them were fun.
More than anyone else, I think season ticket holders will appreciate the jersey switchback.
