OLN Graphics

OLN has some nice graphics.  They’re clean, I’m never wondering what something is.  I can read the text easily.  They’re some of the best in the biz.

I have no problem being complimentary, but here’s this post’s however: placement.

OLN - please get the in-game scoreboard away from the bottom of the screen.  I took the above quickie screenshot to show how it can obscure play and it just happens way too often.

Also - has anyone tried DVR’ing a game?  Try fast-forwarding through the game to the important parts (goals… ok, and fights too):

Just not fun.  While I can disable that bar on my DVR, it reappears every time I change speed, and I’m not sure others have that option.

So it looks great, but move it to the top.

Comments:

  1. I have the same problem with the bar.  If you hit the exit button on my DVR remote, the bar goes away for about 10 seconds and then reappears.  But it have have paused the action, the bar will go away.

  2. Hmmmm..  I don’t have that problem with my DVR. I guess it has to do with your cable provider and/or the actual machine.

My biggest problem with screen clutter has been with Fox Sports Net.  I don’t know if they all do it, or if it’s just Fox Sports South, but they’ll run a little promo on the bottom of the screen that starts as a little crawl on the very bottom, but turns into this sprawling eyesore that covers half the screen for five seconds with an ad for the Best Damn Sports Show, or some Xtreme sports nonsense.  As if they don’t have enough commercials already, they have to disturb me while the puck is in play?  I hate it.

  3. Closed captions sometimes either cover action at the top of the screen or cover the bottom bar…  The caption placement is just as bad as the bar place3ment.  I believe it would be better if they lowered the bar just a tad or had it sitting at the bottom of the screen….

    Just my opinion.
