Notes 12/17/05
- Attendance looks poor in Washington again.
- I’ve never been a fan of the Capitals, but I do want the franchise to do well because of Ted Leonsis and Alexander Ovechkin.
- If I had to pick between Sidney Crosby and Ovechkin, I go with Ovechkin in a heart beat right now. He simply plays a better all-around game, but he is a couple of years older.
- Ovechkin would succeed in the “old” NHL.
- The Caps seem to be fans of semi-early Sunday games.
- Brent Johnson reminds me of Connor Trinneer.
- Jason Spezza got the Shane Doan pass.
- I love the low-budget commercials I get to see on Center Ice. Few things are funnier than what’s produced by throwing a camcorder and a car salesman’s family into a room.
- Other commercials I don’t normally get to see, but like: Carl’s Jr, Jack in the Box, and those Canadian Viagra commercials are more clever than the ones they run down here in the States.
- I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought Sean Avery looked like Liam Gallagher in his hat and glasses.
- Avery’s really got a few people who still love him and everyone else who hates him. Say what you want about him, but either way, he makes the game more fun. He’s the NHL’s Iron Sheik. Doing intermission interviews with him could get the game on PPV in Los Angeles. Avery could just be smack-talkin’ into the microphone and Jeremy Roenick could be behind him nodding his head and giving some P.Diddy like “yeah yeah"s in the background. Afterwards we cut to Georges Laraque, who tells us to eat our vitamins.
- Unlike other pro sports, the NHL shuts down completely on Christmas Eve and Christmas. The NBA has no games on the Eve, but two on Christmas day. The NFL has the majority of its games on the day of Christmas Eve and then two on Christmas day.
