NHL Teams Are Catching On
It wasn’t too long ago I was wondering out loud why no team had RSS feeds for news, events, or any other information. It’s just so easy.
A few teams have decided, yes, it is easy.
Dallas Stars:
The Stars have Daryl Reaugh, “Razor”, blogging. He seems pretty free with his words, which is definitely a good thing. A stuffy this-team-is-the-best blog won’t do an official team site any good. There’s a big RSS button at the top left. Subscribe away. There’s nothing in the page for your browser to automatically pick up the feed, that’d be a nice addition.
Tampa Bay Lightning:
The Bolts have Todd Wright blogging. Once again, it’s a real blog, there’s some good content in there so far. I do have a couple of issues that can be fixed by the Bolts: one is that outside of a feature story on the front of the site (a flash area that fades from one story to another), there doesn’t seem to be a link to it. A place on the menu would be good. There’s no link to the feed and the code for browsers or readers to automatically pick it up is misplaced (FireFox did find it for me, but for some others it was missed). Oh, Todd Wright’s blog also has comments on. Kudos on the Bolts for that. While I’m sure it’ll have to be moderated if it grows, fan interaction is the point of all of this.
San Jose Sharks:
The Sharks have an “In the Crease” that’s sort of blog-like, but we don’t have to call it a blog. They also have their normal news section. They’ve decided to offer feeds for both, and setting up a page like this means they can easily add more. Auto-detect would also be a nice addition for them.
I’ve seen some other teams add “blogs”, but not in the sense most would think. If you find any official team sites (from any league) adding blogs, adding feeds, shoot me a note.
I’ll have all of these covered by my Feedreader, which should be up shortly.
Update Oct 27 430pm: Thanks to Justin’s comments I found the Predators have a blog. While it’s based off of forum software, it does have an rss feed, and it does allow people to leave comments and send trackbacks.
