Mixing Fire and Ice

A Reuters report details the punishments handed out to the players who were involved in the fighting during the World Championships game in the Ukraine.

Far more interesting than the current events is a mention of what Tony Iob did in 1994:

Canadian-born Iob, a ninth round Buffalo Sabres draft pick in 1991, has been involved in a long list of disturbing episodes throughout a career spent primarily in European leagues.

The most bizarre incident occurred in the 1994 Italian league season when Iob picked up a lighter from the debris thrown on the ice during a bench clearing brawl and grabbed an opponent’s jersey before attempting to set him on fire.

Lighting people on fire isn’t funny kids.  But in the middle of a hockey game?  Attempted while on ice?  Maybe just a little of teh funny.

Comments:

  1. You sure it wasn’t his teammate? Maybe the teammate was in a goalscoring slump and Iob was trying to light a fire under his ass. too funny!

  3. I wish I could have seen that. Unfortunately there’s no body lighting anyone on fire in the NHL
