Dallas Stars Blog: Snow Day
I’m sure the other local papers will run something by tomorrow morning and that more will be made available throughout the day. If I missed anything feel free to email me.
Many are calling the organization a joke, but the team (you know, the one with the players on it) headed by Ted Nolan shouldn’t be that bad and has a legitimate playoff shot, if nothing else. Well, as long as the RFAs, namely Trent Hunter and Rick Dipietro, are willing to sign at this point. Wins could mute some of the criticism, but those (if they’re coming) are months off.
Update 415am: Added NY Post and NY Daily News links, rounding out local coverage a bit more. Both papers mention that Smith never had a formal contract and Smith’s compensation could become an issue. From the Daily News:
There could well be a dispute over how much the Islanders owe Smith. The Daily News has learned that Smith, seeking a shorter-term deal than the three-year, $2.1-million pact Wang offered, never formally signed a contract.
Of course, Smith’s signature is on the Standard Player’s Contracts to which the Islanders signed free agents Brendan Witt, Tom Poti, Mike Sillinger and Chris Simon during his brief tenure.
Update 1110am: I was just told Hunter accepted his qualifying offer already. His NHLPA page seems to confirm.
Update 435pm: The Islanders have agreed to terms with goaltender Wade Dubielewicz on a one-year contract. Snow’s first signing? How’d that feel? Wade will have a good shot at being Dipietro’s backup this season (as opposed to his role last year as the Sound Tigers #1 goaltender).
Update Jul 20 135am: Still adding to the link list.
