Leafs Fans Get Arena Alternative, Popcorn Prices Stay the Same
From CityNews: Toronto Maple Leafs Games To Be Shown In Cineplex Theatres
Starting next week, 25 Cineplex theatres across the province will be running Leafs games on their movie screens in high definition and with full theatre sound. It’s the first time the Blue and White have been shown on the big screen, and tickets will cost about the same as a regular movie ($8.95 to $10.95).
The first game, which will also be shown on the team-owned digital channel Leafs TV, is next Thursday against the Florida Panthers.
It’s a great idea for a hockey-mad city. I’m not sure if it would work outside Canada on a regular basis, but I’d think a lot of NHL cities (yes, even a few in the US) could pull it off during the playoffs.
