Just Missed It
If I told you one team barely missed the playoffs your first guess for which that is probably wouldn’t be the Boston Bruins.
Bud Barth of the Worcester Telegram reminds us that Boston lost 32 one-goal games.
If there’s one statistic that encapsulates Boston’s season, it’s those 32 losses by one goal. If only half of those were reversed, the Bruins would have been right in the playoff mix. As it is, they finished well out of the picture.
Indeed. 16 more points would give the Bruins 90, and while they would have fallen short, it certainly would have been a race ‘til the very end.
Things to note: 16 of those 32 one-goal losses were overtime and shootout losses (an even 8-8 split), so the Bruins didn’t come out pointless from all of those games. The Bruins won 14 one-goal games, including overtime (4) and shootout (2) wins.
