Injured or Not Injured?

Eric Cairns was traded to the Penguins yesterday.  A good move in my opinion.  They need some big defensemen, and they certainly need someone to protect Sid the Kid more.

But can he play?

From TSN’s Cairns page:

18-Jan-06: Broken ankle, late February.

Really?  An admin from the Penguins official message board named “Pens Front Office3” writes:

I watched him practice today and I talked to him in the locker room afterward and he was walking around. I never got any indication he had any sort of injury

This wouldn’t be the first time TSN had a phantom transaction listed this season.  Within a few hours we should know.  I’ll either hear back from the team, or Cairns will (should?) be in the Pens lineup tonight.

Update: Cairns is playing in the Rangers-Pens game tonight.

Update Fri 215pm: The Penguins have confirmed Cairns is not injured.
