Gratton Gets His Game
Following up about Josh Gratton’s Possible Coyotes Debut: Josh Gratton didn’t get to play Tuesday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets and Jody Shelley, but he did get to play tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Gratton logged 7:52 of ice time, was a +1 and had a shot on goal. As expected, he got into a fight. Unexpectedly, his opponent, Mark Bell, picked up an instigator. Gratton, along with Tyson Nash, tried to outskate Jim Vandermeer to beat an icing call. Vandermeer was able to touch the puck first, and got squished in the process. While Vandermeer can certainly take care of himself, Bell stepped right in and grabbed ahold of Gratton. Gratton didn’t need much convincing to drop his gloves.
Bell was impressive. I probably wouldn’t pick him to win a bout with Gratton most of the time, but anything can happen on any given night. It was a good, entertaining fight and Gratton had a pretty solid Coyotes debut overall.
