Fun With Truncation

I subscribe to the Tampa Bay Lightning RSS feed for their press releases.

I was confused when I saw the latest:
LIGHTNING FOUNDATION, CHRISTINE TORTORELLA RELEASE CHILDREN

I thought, “I didn’t know they were holding any captive.”

I then clicked through to see the full title: LIGHTNING FOUNDATION, CHRISTINE TORTORELLA RELEASE CHILDREN’S BOOK ‘HEY, COACH!’

Ah, now I get it.  I’m not sure if they just truncate the title for the feed or if the ’ cut it off.  Either way, it gave me a laugh.

They’re giving away 2000 copies of the book to schools and proceeds will go to the Lightning Foundation’s literacy and education initiatives.  You can buy the book through the link above.

  1. Ahhh ha, so it turns out they were holding children’s books hostage.

  2. It’s about time they released Dingman from that basement…

  3. That’s hilarious. Then again, I grew up in Florida and that headline, sadly enough, wouldn’t really surprise me if it were true. Especially knowing John’s temperment.
