Alternative Logos

I was looking to add more avatars for the members at hockeyfights.com forums and I took a look at Chris Creamer’s Sports Logos to fill in the gaps (it’s a great site, check it out when you get a chance).

The NHL section has every old school and alternative logo you can think of.

I can’t even remember the Predators using this logo, but it might be my favorite alt logo:

Does anyone know if the Preds actively use this logo in any way?

A lot of the newer teams have some great stuff.  I can only expect the Ducks re-branding to lead way to at least one or two great new logos, hopefully one being the primary.  Sure, this is all for marketing nowadays, but some of these are simply great designs.

Update: Thanks to commenter Wes who pointed out the fossil logo is now on the sleeves of the jerseys.  I was still used to the Gaylord Arena Tower.

  1. My favorite alternate logo would probably be the Edmonton Oilers blue oil drop that shows up on their alternate jerseys. Great design…

  2. Chris used to have a forum on Fanhome.com when I was an administrator on the site.  I was in there often and they’d be doing conceptual designs for new logos for teams as well as reporting on logo changes and such.

One day, one of his readers was looking through a trademark site and found a 3rd logo that the Lightning were planning to implement during their 10th anniversary season.  Word got out about it and the Lightning reported to the St. Petersburg Times that it was a CANCELED 3rd logo.

It was only black and white (the one that was found) and looked rather…  um…  Well, you remember how the Detroit Pistons had a slew of irrelevant, techy logos during the 1990’s?  Sorta like that.  I still have the graphic saved on my computer I think.

  3. It is on each sleeve of both the home and away jerseys.

  4. Ah yes, it is.  It replaced the Gaylord Arena Tower and I never noticed (even some featured pics on the Preds site still have the “old” jerseys).  Thanks for the pointer.
